along the nile: eight artists in egypt

10 & 11 October 2026

Painting of ancient stone ruins with tall columns set against a clear blue sky, with several small black birds on the sandy ground.

This October, Summerleaze Gallery presents Along the Nile: Eight Artists in Egypt, an exhibition of new work inspired by a shared painting journey through Egypt earlier this year.

Bringing together Tim Scott Bolton, Susie Elliott, Luke Martineau, Bella Martineau, Charles Church, Richard Foster, Alice Bogis Rolfe and Geoffrey Leckie, the exhibition captures eight individual responses to the landscapes, people and extraordinary history encountered along the way.

Travelling through Luxor and Aswan and along the Nile, the artists painted together, finding inspiration in the remarkable contrasts of the Egyptian landscape — from ancient temples and monumental architecture to rural villages, cultivated fields and the vast desert beyond.

The Nile forms a natural thread through the exhibition. Feluccas moving across the water, the changing light, views towards the Theban Hills and quieter scenes of everyday life appear throughout the collection. Other works capture village houses, donkeys, courtyards and the ancient monuments of Luxor and Aswan.

Together, the paintings offer eight distinct perspectives on a remarkable shared experience, capturing an Egypt shaped by light, water, history and daily life — with the Nile running through it all.
